Chief admits 5-metre G20 security rule didn’t exist

Turns out that, not surprisingly, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair knowingly lied to the citizens or Toronto and essentially the world.

It was told to us that police had the power to demand identification from, and to search, anyone that came within 5 meters of the G20 security fence.

According to the Canadian Press:

“Toronto’s police chief is admitting there never was a five-metre rule that had people fearing arrest if they strayed too close to the G20 security perimeter.

Civil libertarians were fuming after hearing Friday that the Ontario cabinet gave police the power to stop and search anyone coming within five metres of the G20 fences in Toronto for a one-week period.

However, the Ministry of Community Safety says all the cabinet did was update the law that governs entry to such places as court houses to include specific areas inside the G20 fences — not outside.

A ministry spokeswoman says the change was about property, not police powers, and did not include any mention of a zone five metres outside the G20 security perimeter.

When asked Tuesday if there actually was a five-metre rule given the ministry’s clarification, Chief Bill Blair smiled and said, “No, but I was trying to keep the criminals out.”

Premier Dalton McGuinty still hasn’t explained why cabinet passed the regulation change in secret, and then kept it secret.

Even though it wasn’t accurate, the public was left to believe the province had given officers the power to demand identification and detain anyone within five metres of the G20 site.

All weekend there were reports of police stopping people throughout downtown Toronto — often in areas nowhere near the G20 zone — demanding identification and to search bags and backpacks.

This is such a breach of our civil liberties and exactly the reason that it is our civil duties to resist the unlawful authority of exploitative governments and police. I think the article speaks for itself, but honestly, this is the same kind of thing that creates a very slippery slope leading to complete totalitarian/fascist rule.

Similar things happened in Nazi germany. The unthreatened majority sits complacently by while the few that speak out are silenced and disappeared or unlawfully detained under the guise of ‘laws’ custom designed to suppress dissent.

This government works for us. Yet they are allowed to frame and jail our fellow citizens to discredit the voices of those with legitimate concerns.

How long will it be before our doors are broken down in the middle of the night and we are hauled off to jail because we dared to question the agenda and practices of a government system (police included) run by corporate puppet masters?

If you think you have free speech in this country, I feel you’re sadly mistaken. This past weekend is yet another example of the fascist policy of this government. Support the troops, tow the party line, and shut your mouth. That way, the corporate agenda can maintain it’s domain and get us to keep buying shit we don’t need.

This behaviour is undemocratic, it’s morally reprehensible, and there’s no way in hell we should ever stand for this.

So, get off the couch, stop subjecting yourself to the distractions that they force down your throat and see through the lies and deception that we must destroy. We honestly need a revolution in this country (and world, as corporations know no national boundaries) to remove the liars and cheats from the seats of government.

Stand up for your rights, even if that means dying for them. And we, as the youth of the future of Canada are the ones that have to make this change.
